The copper brewery

In 2003, the Texel Brewery purchased a copper brewhouse. This brewhouse forms the heart of our business and guarantees an artisanal brewing process. In 2005, a third ‘holding tank’ was built and installed. That allowed the Texel Brewery to boost its capacity to two brewing cycles each day.

Brewmaster Maurice Diks (L) and brewer Michael Kieft (R), accompanied by assistant brewer Ron Witte, apply all their skill and years of experience to brewing speciality beers of the highest quality.

Fermenting and lagering

To acquire their trademark full, creamy taste, our beers have to mature for a while. The beer is stored in special fermenting tanks to ensure optimum fermentation. Texel Brewery has five of these tanks, which were specially designed and built for our brewery. Yeast is added to the beer during the fermentation process. Our brewery also possesses its own, specific strain of yeast. It is the combination of the yeast and the undisturbed fermentation that gives our beer its particular taste.

History

On the southern coast of the isle of Texel, overlooking the Wadden Sea, lies the town of Oudeschild. The Texel Brewery is just a stone’s throw away from this fishing village. Texel Brewery is an independent brewery, where, since 1999, we pride ourselves in brewing speciality craft beers. It regards brewing a good glass of beer of impeccable quality and origin as its mission and raison d’etre.

Texel Speciality Beers

The brewery uses nothing but the purest natural ingredients in its beers. Everything starts with barley. The unique conditions on the island ensure the optimal ripening of barley grown there. For that reason, the brewery only uses barley grown on the island itself. In addition to that, Texel Brewery uses only the purest dune-filtered water, refined varieties of hops and a unique strain of yeast that gives our beer its characteristic creamy taste.

The tranquil atmosphere of the island greatly influences the fermentation process of our beers, as well. Adequate rest and a fully completed fermentation process are major contributing factors to the taste and body of our beers. All varieties of beer produced by the Texel Brewery are of the highest quality. The many certificates and prizes Texel Brewery has won for its beers in the ten years of its existence are a testimony to this.

Texel and Its Products

Texel is known for its unspoilt nature and vast scenery. Tourists visit the island to get away from their hectic everyday lives. This tranquillity is reflected in the island’s products. Almost everything produced on the island is crafted by artisans and very high quality. The island even has its own quality seal (‘Echt Texels Product’, for ‘Real Texel Product’) to set their products apart. We are proud to say that all of the Texel Brewery beers carry this token of quality and recognition.
